Souls to the Polls
A time of reckoning for the American Church and its role in the future of our country. Where are the shepherds?
Considering that politics shape policy, and policy impacts people (and cats in Springfield, Ohio), the pressing question remains: why are churches failing to engage in the political discourse that so directly affects their congregants? At the very least, priests and pastors, tasked with shepherding their flocks, should be examining ballot measures through a biblical lens. After all, isn’t the salvation of souls intertwined with the guidance of earthly decisions?
The First Amendment doesn’t just allow preachers to speak freely about dangerous amendments; it outright protects it. So why this hesitation to speak and urge congregations to vote according to their biblical conscience? The excuse often cited is the so called separtation of church and state, which is not in the Constitution and the real fear of losing tax-exempt status. Let's dissect this myth. Churches can allocate up to 15% of their resources—time, money, and activities—toward lobbying for or against ballot measures. Breaking it down, if a church holds three Sunday services and a midweek service, they could devote about 14 minutes each Sunday to advocate for righteous causes. For churches offering broader ministries like Bible studies, schools and community services, the allowance grows. But even with this legal room, pastors stay silent, and the consequences speak for themselves: gender confusion leading to mutilating surgeries, boys in women’s sports, socialist agendas, full term abortions, and endless wars.
No church has ever lost its tax-exempt status for engaging too much in lobbying. Not once. Why? Because any challenge would fail. The real threat comes not from legal jeopardy but from self-imposed restraint born of fear. This abdication of the church's traditional role as a critic of immoral policies has resulted in apathetic congregations, with pastors more worried about membership numbers and tithes than about leading with conviction.
"There is not a single instance in history in which civil liberty was lost, and religious liberty preserved entire."
John Witherspoon – A powerful preacher, statesman, and member of the Black Robe Regiment.
As it stands, America teeters on the edge of becoming unrecognizable to its own citizens within less than a generation. According to data from the Pew Research Center and the U.S. Elections Project, a staggering 49 million Christians failed to exercise their right to vote in 2020. More troubling, that number rose to 79 million by the 2022 midterms. Imagine where this country would be if these millions of believers voted in line with biblical principles—principles of justice, stewardship, and the sanctity of life? I submit that we would find ourselves much closer to the vision our founding fathers had, men who didn’t hesitate to take off their black robes on Sunday and march into battle on Monday. Their fight was for liberty and righteousness, and our fight, now, is no different.
So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot not cold-I'm about to spit you out of my mouth.

My challenge : can you make sure 10 people in your circle are registered to vote and actually cast a ballot? The deadline fast approaches, in Florida, it is October 7th and I imagine, it is similar elsewhere.
In addition to electing Trump, I have a personal agenda for Florida, read about it here:
FAQ on how churches can be involved in political advocacy:
Father God,
Our forefathers committed this country to Jesus Christ. This land has endured more than 50 years of abortion, but now You have opened our eyes and enabled our state to restrict this abhorrent practice. We know it is Your will that none should perish, especially the innocent unborn.
Father, Amendment 4 is evil, and it must not pass. We thank You in advance for opening the eyes of voters and giving us clear voices to inform others of this deception.
Holy Spirit, lead, guide, and help us to finish the course laid before us. With Your help, we will overcome and achieve a victory that gives all the glory and honor to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen

If you haven't already, read Eric Metaxis's book A letter to the American Church. It's a short read yet it's spitfire and clearly tells the Church to get off it's proverbial Pulpit. Hubs and I bought 54 books and have shared with several Church Pastors, Elder's and Members. I've thankfully found a Church with an unafraid Pastor...the 20% .
Not surprised...more people should do what you did.
