Regardless of Putin’s power stronghold, invading Ukraine was a collective decision. War entails mobilizing an entire bureaucratic apparatus manned by some of the most intelligent people on the planet. Notably, our space race and cold war adversaries were Russian: a very smart, capable, and educated people. Presumably, the Ukraine decision was not made on the simple whim of a mean, power grabbing dictator: Evil Putin as the media simplistically portrays him.
Is it possible that Russians based this invasion on some rational reasoning? The notion of Ukraine joining NATO, nuclear weapons at their doorstep, or a cross-dresser President at the helm might have triggered their existential fears. Since Ukraine is to Russia what Cuba is to the USA, a 5-minute nuclear missile flight time would have been a relevant factor in their situational assessment. Imagine that.
Then again, it might have been a dismal lack of confidence in US foreign policy. The bombing of Belgrade and the Kosovo war as a smoke screen to Bill Clinton’s philandering, the invasion of Iraq for alleged WMD’s under Bush, and even the war on Libya under Obama would certainly be data points subtracting from the US peace reliability index.
Post WW2, NATO was conceived as a deterrence alliance. The original German boundaries kept expanding over the years and when the West dangled the promise of NATO membership to Ukraine, the Russians arguably got nervous. After two decades of observation, they might have concluded that US and NATO were unreliable, bent on keeping the military industrial complex employed, and had no problem decimating populations and destroying countries. Just sayin’.
Next is the conspiracy theory of Ukraine hosting biolabs funded by the United States which in the land of semantics translates as “biological research facilities” located in … Ukraine. Further proof of biolabs is the denial of their existence by western corporate media – these days a surety seal. Perhaps the Russians were concerned the contents within these facilities might be unleashed on their own people? We are talking about research on germs and viruses, not toothpaste or deodorant.
Clearly, the war on Ukraine is nuanced and layered. Adding to the complexity of this debacle are the consulting fees made to Hunter Biden’s energy company prior to his career as an artist (a side note for another occasion). While I don’t presume to comprehend the complex geopolitical issues between the Russia and the Ukraine, I submit the Ukraine war is either the product of completely failed western leadership or it has a purpose that escapes our understanding. Why the perplexing focus and exorbitant funding? Surely there are other nations also deserving of compassion and dollars.
What is even more senseless is the imposition of European Union sanctions against Russia, their main purveyor of energy. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your frost-bitten face: it is going to be a cold and energy expensive winter in Europe and a hangry crowd makes not a tolerant people.
Finally, there is the N word. After decades of restraint, the Biden administration is casually tossing the nuclear option as pre-emptive rather than responsive. Yikes. Why the change of winds? Perhaps a good, old-fashioned war provides distraction from failed economic policies and political cover to the cadre of incompetent leaders who created this debacle. A war would re-set history, saving face for the failing central banks and defunded pension plans. It would perpetuate the military industrial complex and its beneficiaries. A war would divert attention from the present vaccine injuries and impending die-off looming on the horizon from irresponsible and failed pandemic driven health policies. Maybe there is an end goal after all.
You get what you get if you don’t get upset.
Will you pray with me?
Father in Heaven,
We give thanks to be witness and participants of this incredible juncture in the history of our world, for surely you have placed us here, at this time, for a purpose. Lord, we pray you reveal and help us fulfill your divine will. Give us courage, health, and faith to walk in your shadow.
Lord, we pray for all the souls who do not know you or worse yet, have rejected you. May they recognize your might and power before it is too late for their eternal salvation.
Holy Spirit, illuminate and envelop the candidates who are now our elected leaders. May they represent our affairs and govern with transparency and truth. May their work be transformative so this country can course correct and be on the path that You envisioned for our nation.
Blood of Jesus cover and protect us, in His name we pray.
Amen
